I completed my CPIM in 2012 and found the course content both useful when I was studying but the benefits have continued long after qualification. Its very easy to carry the knowledge around and to me, I found myself looking with great clarity on the end-to-end flow of operations within my company. The APICS qualification allows a common language to exist but also, I found that ERP systems such as SAP are so aligned to the APICS logic, that it is a necessity for planners to know the theory before they can be expected to get the use of system tools. An APICS CPIM or CSCP certification is the best way to do this in my opinion
